35 Spring Activities to Inspire You to Get Outside

Happy spring everybody! As the snow melts, the weather warms, and the days get longer, many of us are looking to spend more time outside. In this post, I share some fun spring activities to get you and your kids excited to get outdoors again. 🙂

For Kids and Adults

  1. Find a sit-spot that you can visit daily or weekly
  2. Photograph beautiful cherry blossoms (end of March – early May)
  3. Find a new picnic spot
  4. Rent a kayak or canoe and explore a lake or river
  5. Volunteer at a local community garden
  6. Begin a nature journal
  7. Prepare a meal using foraged edibles and seasonal ingredients
  8. Bike to get errands done
  9. Construct a bug hotel, bird house, or bird feeder
  10. Camp before peak mosquito and black fly season
  11. Volunteer to clean up a local park or forest
  12. Go birdwatching
  13. Get some friends together and try slacklining
  14. Stargaze on a warm night 
  15. Curl up in a hammock with a good book
  16. Hike a peak or a new trail
  17. Take a foraging class with a local guide
  18. Make a campfire
  19. Go geocaching
  20. Try an outdoor rope course

Fun for Kids

  1. Put on some rubber boots and splash in the puddles
  2. Catch the wind with a kite or pinwheel
  3. Climb a tree
  4. Build a tree fort
  5. Make mud pies
  6. Play in the rain
  7. Press and preserve flowers
  8. Search for bugs with a magnifying glass
  9. Create a scavenger hunt to find colours and shapes in nature
  10. Blow bubbles
  11. Make campfire smores
  12. Find shapes in the clouds
  13. Play flashlight tag, kick the can, and other outdoor games
  14. Search for shells and rocks at the beach
  15. Build a fort and have a picnic inside
